Fern Tree Nature Park

Inspiration
The Fern Tree Nature Park is the principal gateway for cyclists and walkers to explore Wellington Park, the City’s most iconic reserve. Developed many years ago, the park was tired, under-utilised and in need of a transformation to meet contemporary expectations for quality visitor facilities in such an important public space.
Outcomes
Inspiring Place developed a master plan for the park in close consultation with the local community. We collaboratively reimagined the facilities in the park as a nature play space with associated amenities including picnic and barbeque, toilet and bus facilities along with new access arrangements. We were then entrusted to detail the concept and prepare working drawings for tender and construction.
Paths, play features and amenities were woven into the established vegetation of the park — large mature trees and rhododendrons making an inspired setting for new works. Play features utilise natural materials that merge with the backdrop.
The facilities were an instant hit being overwhelmed with parents and children from day one who wanted to explore the native bushland, challenge themselves in a safe space and picnic and relax in an inspiring landscape setting.
